In the Warehouse

Working with the handheld

The handheld is the place to do Warehouse work: claim a task, scan its labels, check the quantity, and confirm the physical step.

Choose your work area

Open Handheld in the app switcher. Its home screen offers Receiving, Putaway, Replenishment, Picking, Packing, and Shipping. These screens guide one operation at a time, while the WMS gives the control room an overview of all work.

Signed-in users can work alongside the virtual crew. Administrative master-data changes and control-room stock corrections remain restricted to administrators. Missing administrative controls do not stop you from doing ordinary handheld work.

Know which label the screen expects

Location codes identify where goods stand. EANs or article numbers identify the product. SSCCs identify individual pallets and shipping units. Trolley codes identify the carrier used inside the Warehouse. A correct product on the wrong pallet or at the wrong location is still a wrong scan.

Use the value shown for the requested field. You can enter label values with the keyboard when exploring the simulation without a physical scanner. Picking ignores surrounding spaces and letter case when comparing codes, but still requires the correct identifier.

The four kinds of label and what each identifies.
  1. Receiving: scan the inbound gate first, then the announced pallet SSCC.
  2. Putaway: scan the pallet SSCC and a valid reserve destination.
  3. Replenishment: scan the pallet SSCC and the assigned picking destination.
  4. Picking: scan location, product, and trolley, confirm the exact quantity, then scan a packing station to park the picked trolley.
  5. Packing: scan the trolley to take its order, then scan products into a unit or their own packaging. Bring closed units at a station to an outbound gate.
  6. Shipping: scan the SSCC or tracking number into the pickup.

Resume the work you already hold

Claiming work assigns it to you so another worker does not perform the same task. Reopening Picking returns your unfinished list, and assigned forklift tasks must be confirmed by their assignee. If a task is unavailable, check whether another person or crew member already holds it.

Use Give pick list back, Give order back, Give pallet back, or Give task back to release unfinished Picking, Packing, Putaway, or Replenishment work. Receiving is shared: several people can receive pallets from the same advice, but each pallet is received only once. Complete its receipt only after everyone has finished checking the delivery.

Confirmation changes shared live data. After a validation message, read the message and recheck the current task rather than repeatedly sending the same scan. Another worker may have finished related work since you opened the screen.

Verify the result in the WMS

After a confirmation, inspect the matching order, pallet, or task in the WMS. Putaway and replenishment should change the pallet location. Picking should reduce the pallet quantity and record the trolley. Packing should account for picked pieces. A closed pickup should show its handed-over packages.

For a stock discrepancy, report a shortfall from Picking. For a wrong destination or label, correct the input. For work that cannot start because of capacity or stock, use the relevant WMS queue and the Troubleshooting chapter to find the dependency.
