In the Warehouse

Receiving & putaway

Turn an announced supplier shipment into counted, traceable stock and move it to a place where orders can use it.

Before receiving a pallet

A purchase order says what the business bought; a despatch advice says what the supplier is sending. Open Receiving to find the advice, then compare its announced pallets with the delivery. Receiving uses the supplier’s SSCC, so the pallet keeps its identity from announcement to storage.

Choose an unblocked inbound gate in the correct Warehouse. Unlike a rack location, a gate can hold multiple pallets while they wait for putaway. An announced pallet is not stock until it has actually been received.

Record what actually arrived

Use Receiving on the handheld to work through the announced delivery. The pallet record stores the received quantity, batch, and best-before date, while the receipt records who received it and where. A receipt creates a stock movement and reports the stock change to the ERP.

Receive only pallets listed in this advice, once each. The quantity must be at least one and cannot exceed the announced quantity; refuse surplus goods. Articles tracked by best-before date require a batch and a date at least 14 days ahead. Articles without date tracking accept neither field. Leave missing or refused pallets unreceived.

  1. Open the delivery and scan its inbound gate. The handheld remembers the gate for this delivery until you change it.
  2. Scan the announced pallet SSCC and check the article against the delivery.
  3. Enter the actual quantity and the required batch and best-before information.
  4. Confirm receipt, then continue with the next pallet.

Complete the delivery receipt

Complete receipt when you have accounted for the delivery. Announced pallets that have not been received count as not delivered. The ERP receives the quantities that actually arrived per purchase-order line.

Completing receipt and completing putaway are separate events. You can finish checking the delivery while its received pallets are still waiting at the gate. Those pallets already contribute to on-hand stock, but orders cannot reserve them yet.

Move the pallet into reserve storage

Every received pallet at a gate gets an open putaway task. The planner looks for a free, unblocked reserve location in the same Warehouse, preferring the aisle and nearby bays where the article already stands. Locations held by other tasks are excluded.

On the handheld, scan the pallet SSCC and the destination location. You may use the suggested reserve location or another free reserve location in the same Warehouse. A picking location, occupied place, blocked place, or place held for another task is rejected.

The confirmed move is recorded in the stock movements. From now on, orders can reserve the pallet. If a task has no destination yet, leave the pallet at its gate and check reserve capacity; the planner can assign a place when one becomes free.
